Top seed Dominic Thiem dumped out of Chengdu Open

Top seed Dominic Thiem was dumped out of the Chengdu Open by Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Thiem is having a breakout year on the ATP Tour and was expected to book another semi-final spot in China until the Spaniard intervened.

Ramos-Vinolas put in a fine performance to earn a 6-1 6-4 win and set up a semi-final meeting with Grigor Dimitrov.

Third seed Dimitrov had to do things the hard way as he came from a set down to beat Diego Schwartzman 4-6 6-4 6-3.

Russian Karen Khachenov downed fourth seed Feliciano Lopez 6-3 6-4 and will meet Viktor Troicki in the last four following the Serb's 6-3 7-6 (7/4) win over Kevin Anderson.

Tomas Berdych needed three sets to get past Jiri Vesely in the Shenzen Open.

The Czech top seed won 7-6 (7/1) 3-6 6-2 and will meet Thomaz Bellucci in the semi-final after the Brazilian surprised fourth seed Bernard Tomic with a 6-2 6-2 win.

Richard Gasquet edged out Mischa Zverev 7-6 (7/4) 7-6 (7/2) and comes up against Janko Tipsarevic after he got the better off Malek Jazir 7-6 (8/6) 6-2.
