Top seed Elina Svitolina made short work of her first round opponent at the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota.

The world number 27 needed just 57 minutes to see off American Louisa Chirico 6-2 6-1, with the Ukrainian reeling off nine of the last 10 games to ease into the second round in the Colombian capital.

"I've actually already adjusted to the altitude - I've been training here for two weeks," Svitolina said on the WTA Tour website.

"But it's very difficult to play in Bogota. I was just able to play very well."

Sixth seed Shelby Rogers, however, was sent packing by 2006 and 2011 champion Lourdes Dominguez Lino, with the Spaniard triumphing 6-3 6-2 over the American.

Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia edged out home hope Maria Herazo Gonzalez 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7/2), while another Colombian Yuliana Lizarazo was also beaten, going down 6-3 6-2 to Germany's Tatjana Maria.

Maria's compatriot Dinah Pfizenmaier eased past Japanese 44-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-2 7-5 and Julia Glushko of Israel hammered Slovenian qualifier Nastja Kolar 6-3 6-1.
