Strycova eases through

Third seed Barbora Strycova cruised through to the second round of the Collector Swedish Open in Bastad with a straight sets victory over American Grace Min.

Czech Strycova booked a second-round meeting with Russia's Evgeniya Rodina following a 6-4 6-2 win over Min and was the leading women's player in action on Tuesday.

Newly-crowned Wimbledon champion and top seed Serena Williams only arrived in Bastad on Monday following her weekend exploits and will play Belgian qualifier Ysaline Bonaventure on Wednesday.

Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson was despatched 6-2 6-1 by Lara Arrubarrena of Spain, but the home crowd had more to cheer about in the next match on centre court when Rebecca Peterson came through 6-4 2-6 6-4 against Luxembourg's Mandy Minella.

Seeded German pair Carina Witthoeft and Tatjana Maria both made first-round exits.

Fifth seed Witthoeft bowed out 2-6 6-3 6-4 to Slovenia's Jana Cepelova and Maria, seeded eighth, lost 6-4 6-1 to in-form Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan.
