Second seed Roberto Bautista Agut is safely through to the third round of the Winston-Salem Open.

The Spaniard, one of only three top 20 players taking part in the tournament, needed three sets to see off Briton Aljaz Bedene, coming from behind to triumph 4-6 6-3 6-3.

"I wanted to keep going," Bautista Agut told atpworldtour.com. "I wanted to leave everything on the court, and I think I was still focused on the match after losing the first set and I could come back."

Steve Johnson celebrated becoming the American number one this week by beating Lukas Rosol 6-3 6-2 and he is joined in the third round by compatriot Sam Querrey - a 6-3 6-7 (7/5) winner over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

There was an impressive scalp for Jiri Vesely, who saw off fifth-seed Kevin Anderson 7-6 (7/5) 6-4, and another seed went crashing when Gilles Simon, ranked seven, lost to Diego Schwartzman.

Third seed Pablo Cuevas made light work of Malek Jaziri, winning 7-5 6-1, while Viktor Troicki, Fernando Verdasco, Marcos Baghdatis and Pablo Carreno Busta also enjoyed safe passage, but fellow seeds Joao Sousa, Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Pablo Lorenzi were all dumped out.
