Keys marches into second round

American Madison Keys led the way as the top four seeds all made it safely through to the second round of the Internationaux de Strasbourg in France on Monday.

Top seed Keys needed 84 minutes to dispatch compatriot Christina McHale 6-4 6-3 while second seed Jelena Jankovic was detained slightly longer as she beat another American, Irina Falconi, 7-6 (8/6) 6-3.

Third seed Sam Stosur beat Puerto Rican wild card Monica Puig 6-0 6-3 and fourth seed Alize Cornet delighted the home fans with a 6-3 6-3 success over Chinese qualifier Qiang Wang.

Fifth seed Zarina Diyas was the biggest casualty of the day as the Kazakh fell 7-5 4-6 6-1 to American Alison Riske. Other winners included Francesca Schiavone, Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and sixth-seeded American Coco Vandeweghe.
