Kerber to lead Germany against Aussies in Fed Cup

Germany will be lead by world number seven Angelique Kerber for their Fed Cup semi-final clash against seven-time winners Australia from April 19-20, captain Barbara Rittner confirmed on Monday.

However 15th-ranked Sabine Lisicki, who won the Miami WTA doubles title on Sunday playing with Switzerland's Martina Hingis, will not be making the trip to Brisbane.

"We only have one thing in our head - to get to the final," said Rittner, who revealed the team would also include Andrea Petkovic, ranked 40, Julia Goerges, ranked 89, and Anna-Lena Groenefeld, 13th in the doubles.

The team is the same one that beat Slovakia 3-1 in the previous round last month in Bratislava.

"(Lisicki) has recently been hit by injuries and illness and is not yet 100percent," Rittner said. "It would be irresponsible for the team and Sabine to take the risk".

Two-time winners Germany are bidding for their first final since their 1992 victory over Spain when Rittner played alongside Steffi Graf and Anke Huber.

Australia and Germany have met 12 times in Fed Cup, with Australia leading 8-4.

They last met in 2012 in Stuttgart, with Australia winning the World Group play-off 3-2.

Italy play the Czech Republic in the second semi-final in Ostrava.
