Russian teenager Karen Khachanov secured the biggest victory of his career to knock out Roberto Bautista Agut and reach the third round of the Barcelona Open.

The 19-year-old lost the second set after serving for the match but did not let it affect him and pulled off a 6-2 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 victory over the fifth seed.

Khachanov, ranked 138, next meets 11th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov, who saved a match point in a 4-6 7-6 (11/9) 6-4 win over Evgeny Donskoy.

Sixth seed Benoit Paire and 13th seed Jeremy Chardy are also through to the third round after straight-sets victories over Teymuraz Gabashvili and Victor Estrella Burgos respectively.

Marcel Granollers will play Monte-Carlo champion Rafael Nadal in the second round after a 6-4 6-3 victory over Daniel Munoz de la Nava.

Former top-10 player Ernests Gulbis, now ranked 83rd, suffered his fifth opening-round loss of the season, going down 5-7 6-4 6-1 to Marton Fucsovics.
