Double bagel in Houston for Marcos Baghdatis

Marcos Baghdatis recorded the first double bagel of the ATP season as he dismissed Diego Schwartzman 6-0 6-0 at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship.

Baghdatis cashed in on six of his 12 break points to pick up the most decisive tour-level victory of his career in just 48 minutes in Houston.

The Cypriot will meet Fernando Verdasco in the second round after he saw off Carlos Berlocq 6-4 6-3.

Fifth seed Sam Querrey also advanced to the second round with a 6-4 7-6 (7/4) win over Reilly Opelka.

Donald Young got the better of fellow American Steve Johnson 6-4 6-3, while Tommy Paul upset the number eight seed Paolo Lorenzi 6-2 6-3.

Germany's Benjamin Becker defeated compatriot Michael Berrer 7-6 (8/6) 6-0 and Matthew Barton ended Frances Tiafoe's tournament early with a 6-3 6-4 triumph.

Lukas Lacko was another to advance as he beat Russia Dmitry Tursunov 6-1 7-5.
