Djokovic and Murray breeze through

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray both made light work of their Rogers Cup last-16 matches but Nick Kyrgios slumped to defeat on the day he was fined for his verbal jibe at Stan Wawrinka.

Top seed Djokovic needed just 54 minutes to thrash America's Jack Sock 6-2 6-1, with the Serbian conceding just 10 points on serve and breaking the world number 35 on four occasions.

"I never played him before so it took me some time to really figure out what his patterns were of the serves, his game in general," Djokovic said on the ATP Tour's official website.

"I did watch him many times before, but it's different when you're standing on the court trying to read the rotation, especially of his forehand because he's got a very quick wrist, very quick motion, good forehand."

Djokovic, who will play Ernests Gulbis next after the Latvian defeated fellow qualifier Donald Young 6-4 6-4, added: "I think the turning point was the 3?2 game when I made a break. After that I just felt in control of the match."

Second seed Murray was given few problems after saving four break points in the opening game against Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

The Scot claimed a routine 6-3 6-2 victory in 65 minutes but he and Leander Paes were defeated in their doubles contest by Murray's brother Jamie and John Peers, who triumphed 6-4 7-6 (11/9).

Kyrgios, who caused a frenzy with his sledge at French Open champion Wawrinka on Wednesday, went down in straight sets to 16th seed John Isner.

The mercurial Australian was recorded by on-court microphones saying: ''Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that mate'' - an apparent reference to Australian Davis Cup team-mate Thanasi Kokkinakis and Croatian player Donna Vekic, who has been linked to Wawrinka since he divorced his wife Ilham in April.

Kyrgios was fined and apologised for his actions but he was booed as as he emerged onto the Banque Nationale court on Thursday and received similar opprobrium as he exited the stadium after a 7-5 6-3 defeat to big-serving American Isner.

He wrote on Twitter: "Tough crowd today & even tougher opponent, well played @JohnIsner unreal serving mate. Good luck in the next round. #TooGood."

Seventh seed Rafael Nadal eased to a 6-3 6-3 victory over Mikhail Youzhny, while defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Bernard Tomic 7-6 (9/7) 6-3 to set up a clash with Jeremy Chardy, who hit back to beat Ivo Karlovic 4-6 7-6 (7/1) 6-4.
