Defending champion Novak Djokovic through to China Open semi-finals

Defending champion Novak Djokovic is through to the semi-finals of the China Open and a meeting with David Ferrer after defeating John Isner in straight sets on Friday.

Serbia's world number one and top seed - winner of this tournament in five of the last six years - took just 52 minutes to see off American Isner 6-2 6-2 to remain on course for a fourth consecutive title.

Spain's Ferrer, the fourth seed, beat wildcard Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei 6-3 6-1.

Third seed Rafael Nadal also made it into the last four, although the Spaniard had to come from behind to win 3-6 6-4 6-3 against Isner's compatriot Jack Sock.

Nadal's next opponent will be Fabio Fognini, the Italian who also required three sets to get through as he beat Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-1 2-6 6-2.

In the women's competition, Polish fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska beat 10th-seeded German Angelique Kerber 6-1 6-4 and will now face fifth seed Garbine Muguruza of Spain, a 6-1 7-5 victor over American qualifier Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The other semi-final will see Serbia's sixth seed Ana Ivanovic take on 12th seed Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland after they got past Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 7-5 and Italian Sara Errani 0-6 6-3 7-5 respectively.
