Dan Evans blown away by Feliciano Lopez in Australian Open

Dan Evans' first-ever appearance at the Australian Open ended in a 6-1 6-0 6-4 thrashing at the hands of Spain's Feliciano Lopez.

The 25-year-old had to come through three rounds of qualifying to take his place in the main draw, but that is where his fun ended as the 18th-seed put the Brit to the sword, winning in just 88 minutes.

Evans could not cope with Lopez's imperious serve in a 24-minute first set, where the Spaniard won all 13 of his first-serve points, while he also tucked into Evans' serve, breaking twice in the fourth and six games.

The second set was a familiar tale, this time Lopez taking it to love, sending down 10 winners and committing just two unforced errors as Evans could simply not cope with his opponent.

Evans made a better fist of the final set and held his first four service games but a comeback was never on the cards.

He could not get into Lopez's serve, not even managing to get to deuce, and when Lopez broke him to go 5-4 it was game over as he served it out for the match.

Lopez will now face either Steve Darcis or Guido Pella in the second round.
