Second seed Marin Cilic had to save a match point before fighting back to claim a comeback victory over teenage wildcard Andrey Rublev in the second round of the Geneva Open on Tuesday.

Looking for his 14th career title, the 2014 US Open champion looked on his way out when he trailed 6-5 in the second-set tie-break, but battled back to clinch a 4-6 7-6 (9/7) 6-1 win against his 17-year-old Russian opponent.

Eighth seed Mikhail Youzhny fell to a straight-sets defeat in his second-round clash against Santiago Giraldo.

The 32-year-old Russian, who scraped through with a narrow in over Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff on Monday, crashed out following a 6-4 6-4 defeat to the Colombian in 95 minutes.

Czech qualifier Lukas Rosol advanced thanks to a 1-6 7-6 (7/1) 7-5 comeback victory over Taiwan's Lu Yen-hsun in a match lasting just over two hours to reach the second round.

Also in the first round, Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan eased to a straight-forward 6-0 6-2 win over Serbian wildcard Janko Tipsarevic, while 24-year-old Argentinian Federico Del Bonis saw off another Russian in Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-3 6-4.

Qualifier Adrian Mannarino of France defeated Argentinia's Carlos Berlocq 4-6 6-1 6-4.
