Benjamin Becker will challenge top seed David Ferrer for a place in the Malaysian Open final after overcoming Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets.

The 34-year-old German is the only unseeded player in the last four after following up his victory over sixth seed Jeremy Chardy with the removal of fourth-favourite Dimitrov, who lost 6-4 7-6 (7/3).

Spain's Ferrer had a slightly easier assignment in his quarter-final against Mikhail Kukushkin and he duly beat the Kazakh 6-3 6-4 in a little over an hour on court in Kuala Lumpur.

Seventh seed Nick Kyrgios, whose mother is Malaysian, is bidding to reach his second ATP World Tour final of the season, and he edged out the big-serving Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (7/4) 7-6 (7/2).

Next up for the Canberra native is Feliciano Lopez, a 6-7 (2/7) 6-3 6-2 winner over Vasek Pospisil.
