Alexander Zverev clinched his first ATP Tour title with a three-set victory over world number three Stan Wawrinka in the final of the St Petersburg Open.

German teenager Zverev battled back from three games down in the deciding set to beat the US Open champion 6-2 3-6 7-5 on Sunday.

The final was the first-ever meeting between the two players and, after the first five games went with serve, world number 27 Zverev broke his Swiss opponent twice in quick succession to claim the opening set.

Top seed Wawrinka had not lost in a final for more than three years and he looked set to extend that record after recovering to win the second set before taking control of the third with a 3-0 lead.

The 31-year-old's quest for a career-best fifth ATP title of the season was ultimately unsuccessful though, as Zverev won seven of the next nine games to claim victory.

In the Moselle Open, home favourite Lucas Pouille upset top seed Dominic Thiem to win his first ATP title.

The 22-year-old Frenchman came through in straight sets, winning 7-6 (7/5) 6-2 in Metz.

Neither player dropped a service game in the opening set and the tie-break looked to be going the way of Thiem as he took a 4-0 lead.

Third seed Pouille, who defeated 2014 champion David Goffin in the semi-finals on Saturday, powered back though and won five consecutive points to take it 7-5.

The disappointment of the tie-break seemed to affect 23-year-old Austrian Thiem and Pouille took advantage, breaking his opponent in the opening game of the second set en route to wrapping it up within half an hour.
