Wales hooker Emyr Phillips could miss the entire Six Nations after his club Scarlets announced that he is due to undergo surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

The 27-year-old forward, who has won three caps, sustained the injury during Scarlets' 17-15 Celtic League loss to Ospreys last Saturday and will be sidelined for up to three months.

Wales launch their Six Nations campaign at home to England on February 6 and finish the tournament against Italy on March 21.

"Scarlets can today confirm that hooker Emyr Phillips will undergo surgery in the New Year," Scarlets said in a statement released on Wednesday.

"Phillips, 27, dislocated his right shoulder in the West Wales derby clash against Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium last Saturday and will undergo surgery on Friday, 2nd January.

"It is expected that Phillips will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks."
