London Welsh have announced the departure of the club's chief executive Mike Stevens.

Stevens leaves after just a year in the job and in the wake of the club's relegation from the Aviva Premiership, when they lost all 22 league games.

The Championship club said on their official website that they will start the search for a new chief executive "very shortly".

Kelvin Bryon, owner and vice-chairman of London Welsh, said: "It is disappointing that we have agreed to let Mike go.

"Mike has made a tremendous contribution during his time with us, no less in developing our commercial activities and our excellent community work."

Stevens said: "The time is right for me to move on; it's been a privilege to have played my part in the development of such a reputable and important rugby club brand."
