Perpignan signed Treviso centre Tommaso Benvenuti on a two-year deal on Monday.

The versatile 22-year-old, who can also play on the wing or at fullback and can kick at goal, is the latest in an extensive recruitment drive by the Catalans, who qualified for the European Cup next season.

Perpignan manager Marc Delpoux, who used to coach in Italy at Calvisano, had made the centre one of his key targets for next season.

Last month Perpignan announced the signing of seven players for next season including South African scrum-half Dewaldt Duvenage from the Stormers, winger countryman Wandile Mjekevu from Sharks and Australian lock Justin Purll from Bordeaux.
