Stuart McInally has given Edinburgh a boost ahead of the European Challenge Cup final by signing a contract extension.

The back has signed a new one-year deal less than two weeks after scoring a try in the semi-final victory over Dragons.

The 24-year-old, who is looking to consolidate a recent switch from the back row to hooker, said ahead of the final against Gloucester: "Obviously everyone's thinking about the final on Friday and, for me, it's nice to know I'm secure here at Edinburgh for another season so I'm looking forward to that.

"The cup run has certainly given us a focus towards the end of the season, which we've not had in a few years and the top six is still achievable as well.

"The boys are in a good place, really excited, we're not putting too much pressure on ourselves and we're just going out to enjoy it."

McInally, who has made 70 appearances for the club, added: "Going forward I want to be playing as much at hooker as possible and that's my goal going into next year, that's why I've stayed here and Edinburgh's the place for me to do that."
