Widnes' New Zealand-born forward Hep Cahill has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the Super League side until the end of 2016.

The 27-year-old former Melbourne back rower is the club's 12th player to be re-signed for 2015.

"Hep has been huge since he's been at the club. His workrate and his ability have helped us move forward," Widnes coach Denis Betts said on Thursday.

"He's been hampered by injury this season but when he has played, he's been exceptional. His workrate is such that it's hard not to have him in the side week in, week out."

Cahill has made 53 appearances for Widnes since joining from Crusaders at the beginning of their return to Super League in 2011.

The club are currently eighth in the 13-team Super league.
