The Brumbies thrashed the Sunwolves 66-5 in Canberra on Saturday to go top of the Australian Super Rugby Conference.

The hosts outscored their Japanese visitors by 10 tries to one at GIO Stadium in the first encounter between the sides.

Brumbies captain Stephen Moore and wing Nigel Ah Wong each touched down twice, with Scott Fardy, Michael Dowsett, Aidan Toua, Jordan Jackson-Hope, James Dargaville and Lausii Taliauli also posting tries. Christian Lealiifano added eight conversions.

Akihito Yamada got the Sunwolves on the scoresheet when he went over 13 minutes from time but it was not enough to prevent his side slipping to their second biggest defeat since joining Super Rugby this season.
