Boost for Toulon as Giteau signs on for two more seasons

Australia playmaker Matt Giteau handed French and European champions Toulon a boost Thursday when he signed on for a further two years, with an option for a third.

The soon-to-be 32-year-old Giteau was coming to the end of his current contract and had received an offer from Racing-Metro as the Parisian club sought to soften the blow of Jonathan Sexton heading home to Ireland.

Giteau, capped 92 times by the Wallabies, arrived at Toulon in 2011 and is expected to move more from playing centre outside Jonny Wilkinson to the No 10 shirt now the Englishman has retired.

He scored 36 points, including two tries, in his first two matches for Toulon in the Top 14 this season before picking up an injury. He is set to make his comeback on Friday away to Brive.
