Australian scrum-half Tim Smith has joined Wakefield on a permanent basis for next season, the English Super League club announced on Monday.

The 29-year-old left Wakefield for Salford a year ago, but he returned to the Wildcats on loan in June and helped to spark a five-game unbeaten run that enabled the club to avoid relegation.

"I'm obviously delighted that Tim will be playing for us in 2015," said Wakefield coach James Webster.

"Everyone who has followed the club for the past three years will have seen the influence that Tim has on the team. Tim's experience and direction will be priceless in the aim of yet again improving next season."

Smith, a former Wigan and Parramatta half-back, has now made 89 career appearances for Wakefield. He was elected their Player of the Year in 2012.

"It was an easy decision," he said. "I think people can see I'm happy at Wakefield and enjoy everything about the club."
