Argentina will field a team in the Super Rugby tournament from 2016 as the southern hemisphere competition expands again beyond its New Zealand, Australia and South Africa roots.

The tournament had already agreed to incorporate a Japanese franchise for the period of 2016-2020.

The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) said it was working on a plan to finance the venture which would require a squad of 40 players already part of the Pumas' set-up inside the international Rugby Championship which features the All Blacks, Wallabies and Springboks.

"The participation in Super Rugby is going to give our players the chance to progress and our fans to see an Argentine team measure up against the best players in the world for seven months every year," said UAR chief Agustin Pichot.
