All Blacks called Australian by Chicago paper

One of Chicago's largest newspapers, the Sun-Times, mistakenly described the New Zealand All Blacks as a "legendary Aussie team" following their 74-6 thrashing of the USA at Soldier Field.

The Sun-Times report correctly referred to the New Zealand All Blacks in the intro of the copy.

But in an apparent editing error the standfirst that accompanied the piece proclaimed "Sell-out crowd watches legendary Aussie team dominate Americans".

The world champion All Blacks got the last laugh though with their lopsided defeat Saturday of the Americans to launch their Northern Hemisphere tour.

The All Blacks embarrassed the 18th-ranked Eagles in their first US appearance in 34 years before a record US rugby crowd of more than 61,000 spectators at Soldier Field, home of the NFL's Chicago Bears.

The reaction in New Zealand was swift with the Chicago newspaper's mix-up becoming the second most popular story on the country's largest news website stuff.co.nz.

Meanwhile The New Zealand Herald posed "what's the bigger crime, calling the All Backs Australian or labelling the Wallabies legendary?".
