Frankie Dettori Flops at Epsom

Frankie Dettori finally made his long awaited return to horse-racing after seeing out his 6-month ban, which was awarded after he was found to have tested positive for cocaine use.

Dettori was lined up for two races and in his first outing he finished last out of nine riders after Beatrice Aurore faded badly in the last few furlongs. He fared slightly better in his second race and was in the running until his ride Fattsota faded when the horse could not respond when asked to. Dettori managed a respectable fifth place finish in his second outing.

He found it difficult to contain his delight at being back at the race track and when interviewed by C4 racing he said he “was like a kid on Christmas morning”. He clearly was happy at being back in the saddle.

Frankie Dettori won the Epsom Derby on Authorize back in 2007 on his 15th attempt. However, unless something dramatic happens in the next 24 hours Frankie will not have a ride and will be watching the race from the sidelines.
