CAS to hear Murofushi appeal in April

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear Japanese athlete Koji Murofushi's appeal against his exclusion as a candidate for election to the IOC Athletes' Commission on April 11 and 12, the CAS said Monday.

Taiwan's Chu Mu-yen, who has also appealed, is waiting on a decision in his case after his own hearing on January 21, at which the CAS heard from Taiwanese Olympic Committee and International Olympic Committee witnesses.

The pair were excluded amid accusations they campaigned inappropriately during last year's London Games for positions on the Commission.

Murofushi won bronze in the hammer at the London Games while Chu won taekwondo gold at the 2004 Athens Games.

Pending the outcome of the appeals, French triple canoe slalom champion Tony Estanguet, Slovakian shooting star Danka Bartekova, Zimbabwean swimmer Kirsty Coventry and Australian rower James Tomkins are the candidates for positions on the Commission.

In the meanwhile, the IOC has suspended the admissions procedure to the Commission until the international body holds its next session in Buenos Aires in September.
