According to PhiladelphiaEagles.com's Adam Caplan The San Francisco 49ers will reportedly release kicker David Akers before the start of free agency.
He tweeted earlier @caplannfl: #49ers are expected to release K David Akers before free agency starts, per source.
Akers' takes a rather hefty salary and is set to count for $3.6 million against the cap (per Spotrac), and his performance in 2012 was far from exemplary.
Considering that Akers had broken the NFL record for most field goals in one season in 2011 (44), his fall from grace in 2012 was rather unexpected.
