West Ham are looking to replace back-up goalkeeper Roberto following a run of shocking performances from the summer signing.
The Spaniard has been called upon to replace the injured Lukasz Fabianski in recent weeks but has made a number of high profile errors, including scoring an own goal in Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Burnley.
According to The Athletic, the Hammers are scouting potential replacements for Roberto ahead of the January transfer window, despite the fact he was only brought in on a free transfer from Espanyol in the summer.
The 33-year-old was signed after it was confirmed Adrian would leave the club, the Spaniard going on to sign and impress with Liverpool.
The Roberto deal was orchestrated by West Ham's director of football Mario Husillos, who worked with the goalie at Malaga and previously described the keeper as a 'fantastic' stopper, but the keeper has failed to win any of the six games he has played so far.
Fabianski's absence has caused huge problems for West Ham, who are on a dreadful run of form, and Manuel Pellegrini will undoubtedly be worried with his number one sidelined until late December.
Pellegrini has refused to publicly criticise Roberto, but The Athletic claim the goalkeeper's teammates are the most concerned with his shocking performances. It's believed that even in pre-season training, the summer acquisition failed to impress and his colleagues have since lost faith in his ability.
West Ham fans will be frustrated with their teams lack of consistency, especially in a season where many had tipped the Londoners to challenge for the European places.
What will be equally annoying for the West Ham fans is that the club allegedly passed up the opportunity to sign Cardiff City keeper Neil Etheridge in the summer, a player who thoroughly impressed for the Bluebirds last campaign.
West Ham's hierarchy are also keen to sign a holding midfielder in January, meaning it is likely to be a busy winter window for the Premier League side.
The Hammers are currently sat in 16th place without a win in their last seven matches, including five defeats. While Roberto is not solely to blame, his catastrophic gaffes haven't exactly helped.
