Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in bringing Leicester City striker Islam Slimani to the club to help cope with Harry Kane's injury.
With their talisman potentially sidelined for the remainder of the season, Spurs have looked at pretty much every striker under the sun to try and help them survive until Kane returns.
Next up on their list, according to The Telegraph, is Slimani, who is currently out on loan with Monaco. The 31-year-old has racked up seven goals and seven assists in just 13 appearances this season and looks to be back to his best after a troubling few seasons.
Monaco are understood to be preparing for an approach from Spurs, who would have to convince them to terminate the loan if they are to have any chance of signing Slimani.
That will likely be easier said than done, with Monaco understandably keen on making his spell at the club permanent as soon as possible. There has been talk of a £7.8m option to buy, but this has been disputed by both sides.
Aston Villa were also keen on Slimani, but Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that it would be 'too complicated' for them to strike a deal, forcing Villa to push for Genk striker Mbwana Samatta instead.
The signs certainly do not look positive for Spurs' pursuit of the Algerian. They are looking for a target man and believe that Slimani could fit the bill, but this deal certainly seems to have plenty of obstacles to overcome.
Spurs are thought to be working through a long list of potential candidates to try and narrow down a short list of options. Scouts are currently in France but are expected to move on in the near future to continue their search.
Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edinson Cavani has also been linked with the club during the scouting mission in France, while rumours of a move for AC Milan's Krzysztof Piątek refuse to disappear.
Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min have shared the striker role since Kane's injury, but the club still remain desperate to recruit an out-and-out striker in the near future.
