Tottenham are supposedly considering a bid for Lyon's Memphis Depay, with Spurs prepared to pay £50m for the forward, according to one report.

The 25-year-old has made an excellent start to the season, scoring seven goals in ten Ligue 1 appearances and four in as many Champions League fixtures, which has caught Tottenham's eye.

According to The Mirror, Spurs scouts were sent to watch Depay in Lyon's recent Champions League double-header with Benfica and those performances have convinced them to launch a £50m bid.

The Dutchman's previous Premier League spell with Manchester United was underwhelming to say the least, as he scored just two goals in 33 appearances. However, there has been a marked improvement to Depay's game since moving to Lyon in January 2017 and he has become a key figure for both club and country in that time.

The Netherlands sit top of their Euro 2020 qualifying group on 15 points and Depay's six goals in five appearances have been key to Ronald Koeman's reinvention of the national side.

Used across the forward positions during his time at Old Trafford, Depay has thrived by playing centrally for both Lyon and the Netherlands.

At Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino has struggled to find a quality understudy who's happy to play second fiddle to the England striker and Depay is unlikely to be an exception to this. Moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would most likely result in the Lyon forward behind shunted into a wide position or playing behind Kane - unless he was to drop in a number ten position just behind Depay.
