Spoilers: The Masked Singer's Tree Unmasked as Former England Striker

19 January 2020 10:26

The latest reveal on the wonderfully bizarre The Masked Singer has taken place, with many left flabbergasted by the appearance of former England forward Teddy Sheringham as Tree.

The Manchester United and Tottenham great was unveiled as Tree after he was knocked out of the competition in the sing-off by Octopus, following a questionable performance of Will Young's Evergreen.

Many had been speculating for weeks over who was under the mask with a series of clues making it pretty clear that it was a footballer of some description.

The judges were similarly surprised to see Sheringham, with Rita Ora guessing it to be Peter Crouch, Jonathan Ross guessing at David Seaman, Davina McCall thinking it was Jamie Redknapp, and Ken Jeong concluding it must be Peter Shilton.

All of them were left rather red-cheeked when the former England striker was unmasked following a rather flat rendition of Will Young's song.

Throughout the show clues had hinted at Sheringham's identity, with his costume alluding to his time at Nottingham Forest. When revealing a truth about himself, the 53-year-old claimed there is one moment in his career that everyone wants to talk to him about. Of course, this was his goal and assist in the dramatic 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Sheringham will no longer be appearing on ITV's hit show, after the judges deemed him not worthy of making it through to the next week of the competition.

Many fans of the show are still developing theories on who is underneath each mask, including the likes of Daisy, Fox and Monster, b it is unlikely we will see another world-class footballer on the programme.
