Southampton forward Che Adams is ready to return to the Championship with Leeds United on an initial loan deal.
The 23-year-old only joined the Saints from Birmingham in the summer, but is still without a goal after 16 games in the Premier League.
The Athletic report that both Leeds and the striker are keen on a deal, and would include an initial £1m loan fee as well as an obligation to buy, but Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is currently standing in the way of the deal.
Adams has been given opportunities in the Saints side, but he has been unable to make a difference.
If Adams, one of Southampton's marquee summer signings, leaves this transfer window, the Austrian manager is worried that they are without any other attacking options if no one comes in to replace him.
Leeds are in the need for further attacking options following the recall of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah. The Gunners felt that assurances regarding his playing time weren't being met, and so recalled him ahead of loaning him out to another Championship club this month.
This has left Patrick Bamford as Leeds' only recognised striker in the squad. Fans of the Yorkshire club need not worry too much in that regard with goals flowing freely at Elland Road, managing 43 goals, the fourth highest total in the league.
Injuries derailed Leeds' promotion push last year and an injection of attacking talent like Adams might be exactly what they need to galvanise their promotion push this season.
