Getafe have reportedly cut their asking price for highly-rated defender Dakonam Djene, which has caught the attention of Leicester and West Ham.
Djene has been linked with Premier League clubs in the past, and was touted as a target for Arsenal last summer. That came off the back of a mightily impressive 2018/19 campaign, and Getafe wanted his release clause - somewhere in the region of €40m - paid in full.
The Spanish club's reluctance to negotiate over a fee killed interest in the water. Arsenal instead signed David Luiz and William Saliba, while other interested parties backed off.
A year on, however, the story has changed. The 28-year-old, who captains the Togo international team, helped Getafe to an admirable eighth-placed finish in 2019/20, but the financial complications of the coronavirus crisis leave them in a difficult situation. The Mail report that they are aware the player wants to leave, and as such have brought their asking price down to just £10m.
That has been enough, they say, to revive the interest of West Ham and Leicester, who have now re-entered the frame after fruitless enquiries a year ago. The Irons in particular are keen to add to their squad, but are working with a tight budget, and may be attracted by the exceptional value for money on offer here.
It should be noted, however, that £10m does seem suspiciously cheap. While Getafe's finances are stretched, they don't look to be in outstandingly bad shape - they've spent £17m on Marc Cucurella and Enes Unal so far, deals that likely wouldn't be pursued if they were on the brink.
Realistically, you could imagine them reducing their asking price given the circumstances - but the figures being reported here, for a defender performing at a high level and in the prime of his career, come off as dramatic and sensationalised.
