An evening billed as a celebration of Middlesbrough’s once powerful international influence was hijacked by a Cuban winger and a Finnish forward who have made Norwich their home. Reminders of Teesside’s history as a breeding ground of globe trotting explorers and industrialists were everywhere but, with the stuttering home side failing to rise to the challenge, two visiting imports assumed centre stage.While Onel Hernández’s beautifully executed second-half goal secured Norwich’s seventh straight win, sending Daniel Farke’s Championship leaders five points clear of second placed Leeds United and seven ahead of third placed Sheffield United, Teemu Pukki did a fine job of destabilising Boro’s back five – and derailing their play-off ambitions.
