The first player in 30 years to make such a switch knew it would upset some people ‘but I am sure it will die down over the years … hopefully’Matty Taylor admitted he has not looked at social media since it emerged on deadline day that he was going to become the first player in 30 years to swap Bristol Rovers for Bristol City. In fact, Taylor said that he would “probably come off it”, which seems a wise decision in light of the vitriol that has been posted on the back of a transfer that has whipped up one hell of a storm in an area that is not exactly a footballing hotbed. For those unfamiliar with Bristol’s facts and figures, it has a population of 449,000 and holds the dubious honour of being the biggest city in England never to have hosted Premier League football. Passion, however, is clearly not lacking among the supporters – if passion is the right word in some cases.
