In fact, Taylor said that he would “probably come off it”, which seems a wise decision in light of the vitriol that has been posted on the back of a transfer that has whipped up one hell of a storm in an area that is not exactly a footballing hotbed.For those unfamiliar with Bristol’s facts and figures, it has a population of 449,000 and holds the dubious honour of being the biggest city in England never to have hosted Premier League football. Passion, however, is clearly not lacking among the supporters – if passion is the right word in some cases. Taylor’s defection to the red half of Bristol – he spent two and a half years with Rovers and was their leading scorer in each of his three seasons at the Memorial Stadium – has brought the deep-rooted enmity between these two bitter rivals to the surface.
