Everton may have won the race to land teenage striking prospect Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic ahead of Premier League big-hitters Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, according to the Mail.

The 19-year-old forward cum winger has impressed in League One this season, scoring six goals in 20 outings so far at the troubled club, while also representing England at U20 level.

The 2015/16 apprentice of the year has been watched by many of the Premier League heavyweights in recent months - however, Everton remain confident they are in pole position to land the rising star in the January window.

Lookman, who has a reported £6m release clause in his contract, was the subject of a protracted transfer campaign from Crystal Palace and West Brom in the summer, and it appears that now may be the time when the resolve of Charlton is fully-tested by the Toffees, who can offer the teenager the appetising prospect of Premier League football.

The Addicks recently named Karl Robinson as their new boss, who will take charge of his first game in the FA Cup second round, against former club MK Dons.

Everton, whose start to the season has been less smooth than anticipated under Ronald Koeman, have also been linked with Belgian star Axel Witsel and Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk in what would represent substantially more expensive deals.
