Andy Robertson Pokes Fun at Trent Alexander-Arnold Over Assist Record as Pair Continue Battle

​Under Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool's full-back pairing of Andy Roberton and Trent Alexander-Arnold has blossomed into one of the finest in world football.

The two defenders have been creative forces for the Reds. Last season, Alexander-Arnold made Premier League history by becoming the first defender to ever register 12 assists, while Robertson finished the campaign with 11.

​​However, the Scot has stolen an early lead this season. He currently sits on four assists, whereas ​Alexander-Arnold has managed three. Clearly as a joke to his teammate, Robertson took to ​Twitter to assert his dominance.

Alongside a GIF of himself smiling following an altercation with Kyle Walker during the 3-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, Robertson wrote: "Realising you have more assists than Trent Alexander-Arnold".

Alexander-Arnold has added an extra assist in the ​Champions League this season, but Robertson is still setting the pace domestically.

The pair have enjoyed an incredibly healthy rivalry on opposite flanks, with both players determined to register as many assists as possible to help ​Liverpool in their pursuit of silverware. It's safe to say that both players have been successful.

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson battled for supremacy last season, with both players clearly determined to make the record their own. In the end, it was Alexander-Arnold who won out, and the pair have picked up where they left off this season.

For Klopp, he will undoubtedly be delighted to have such creativity in defence. His two full-backs offer a different dynamic to Liverpool's play, which gives attackers like ​Mohamed Salah, ​Sadio Mané and ​Roberto Firmino more space in which to work their magic.

That is exactly how things have worked out this season. The Reds currently sit pretty at the top of the ​Premier League table, having opened up an eight-point lead as a result of their 3-1 win over ​Manchester City on Sunday.

If Robertson and Alexander-Arnold can maintain their electric form, Klopp will be confident of finally ending Liverpool's long wait for the league title.
