Defending champion Rafael Nadal moved through to the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells with a straight sets win over Tomas Berdych.
The Spanish left-hander was made to work by his Czech opponent, before winning out 6-4, 7-6 to reach the last four.
Nadal said after his triumph: "I played really well, especially the first set.
"The first eight, nine games of the match were at an unbelievable level, later the wind came a little bit and it was more difficult to play.
"I played aggressive with precision and that was the match."
Next up for Nadal is Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic, who backed up his win over Novak Djokovic with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 success against Argentina's Juan Monaco.
In the women's draw Jelena Jankovic and Samantha Stosur progressed to the last four with wins over Alisa Kleybanova and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez respectively.
