British number one Elena Baltacha has continued her fine start to 2010 by beating wildcard Alexa Glatch in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Baltacha emerged victorious after a tight three-set encounter with the American that she eventually claimed 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
She will now play China's seventh seed Li Na in the second round but her compatriot, Anne Keothavong, was not so fortunate losing her first-round encounter with Russia's Anna Chakvetadze 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Baltacha was unimpressed with her display though, saying: "I'm honestly just quite shocked with how I played.
"I felt it was pretty bad but a win's a win and I'll take it. What's really important is winning matches when you aren't playing well."
Of her second-round opponent, she added: "I played Li in Eastbourne and lost 6-2, 7-5 but, even in the first set, I had opportunities.
"I've got nothing to lose. It's always nice to be the underdog, just to go out there and swing freely."
