World number two Novak Djokovic has walked into the second round of the ABN-AMRO World Tennis tournament after opponent Sergiy Stakhovsky quit through injury.
The Serbian was well on course to win the contest after cruising into a 6-2, 4-1 lead before Ukrainian Stakhovsky buckled with a knee complaint.
Djokovic, the top seed at the Rotterdam event, now faces a tricky test against Marco Chiudinelli.
"He's an indoor player," Djokovic said of Chiudinelli. "I beat him in four sets in Melbourne, but it was a tough match. I need to be aggressive.
"I'm motivated, I want to do well this week."
Chiudinelli upset 2008 champion Michael Llodra of France 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 in two-and-a-half hours in the opening round.
Djokovic needs world ranking points this week if he is to stay ahead of Andy Murray, who won the event last year, beating Rafael Nadal in the final.
