John Higgins is facing an independent tribunal following allegations that he was involved in frame-fixing earlier this year.
The 35-year-old Scot and his manager, Pat Mooney, were filmed by the News of the World in which the newspaper claimed they allegedly accepted more than £250,000 to influence the outcome of matches.
The three-time world champion immediately protested his innocence, but was suspended pending the outcome of the hearing which will run into Wednesday.
Higgins suggested that the pair only accepted the money in Ukraine in order to make a swift return to the United Kingdom as they feared 'Russian mafia' would harm them.
However, if found guilty, Higgins could face a lengthy ban from the sport.
Speaking when the allegations were first made back in May, new World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn warned Higgins he would face 'the most severe penalty' if found guilty.
