Scotland ruined Ireland's hopes of a Triple Crown by securing a superb 23-20 victory at Croke Park, with Dan Parks the star of the show after scoring18 points for the victors.
The visitors made a bright start and were rewarded for their enterprise when Parks landed a sixth-minute penalty to give them the lead.
However, the Irish hit back five minutes later when outside-half Jonathan Sexton made a superb break and produced a perfect try-scoring pass for skipper Brian O'Driscoll to skate home.
Sexton added the conversion, but the Scots were back in front four minutes later when Ross Ford and Graeme Morrison made ground down the far touchline, before Johnnie Beattie bulldozed over the final defender to touch down in the corner.
With half-time approaching Scotland extended their lead when Parks first booted a penalty and then landed a drop goal from the last play before the interval.
After the restart Parks was spot-on with a third penalty of the game to give Scotland a ten-point cushion, after Sexton had missed a straightforward kick of his own.
Sexton did better four minutes after Parks' kick, landing a penalty to make the score 17-10 and move Ireland to within a converted try of the visitors.
Just past the hour mark Croke Park erupted when Ireland passed the ball out wide and Tommy Bowe managed to dive over despite the attentions of a couple of Scotland tacklers.
Replacement Ronan O'Gara added a magnificent conversion from the right touchline to level the scores at 17-17 and set up a grandstand finale.
Seven minutes from time Parks' fourth penalty of the evening gave Scotland the lead once again, but within a couple of minutes it was cancelled out by an O'Gara kick.
However, Parks was to have the last word two minutes from time when a fine kick from the left made Rob Kearney pay for being penalised for holding on in the tackle.
