Winger Chris Riley ran in five tries as Warrington Wolves opened their Super League campaign with a 58-0 thrashing of Harlequins.

Garreth Carvell, Richie Mathers, Michael Monaghan, Chris Bridge and Riley had all crossed during an embarrassingly one-sided first half at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Riley then ran riot in the second half after helping himself to four more tries, while further scores from Richie Myler and Simon Grix completed the scoring.

The 21-year-old's feat set a new club record for the most tries scored in one Super League match by a Warrington player.

Meanwhile, Wakefield are the early league leaders after they maintained their 100 per cent start to the new season with a 28-20 win over Catalans Dragons.

The Wildcats opened their campaign with a victory on the road at Harlequins last weekend, but they were pushed all the way by Catalans on Sunday.

Dale Morton scored twice as they came from behind to secure the points before a late try from Glenn Morrison added a late gloss to the final scoreline.

The visitors had found themselves ahead earlier in the game at Belle Vue following tries from Dimitri Pelo, Olivier Elima and Sebastian Martins.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Hull KR edged out Salford 30-12 at New Craven Park after two early tries from Peter Fox set them on their way.
