Parker will turn to Alker for help
Salford City Reds' captain Rob Parker says he is happy to look to former skipper Malcolm Alker for help. Alker has been at the Willows for over a decade and has always been seen as Salford's inspirational leader but he was sacked on a recent pre-season tour to Florida. Parker has taken over the captain's armband and will lead the team out in Saturday's Super League opener against Celtic Crusaders.
But he says he knows Alker is there for him should he need any help on how to take the City Reds forward.
He said: "We were a close group of players before we went away - and we're probably even closer now. I think the adversity is going to stand us in good stead. You either sink or swim, and the reaction so far from all the lads has been good. We stuck together as a unit.
"We've had some tough sessions thrown in our faces to see how we would react, and it's certainly made us stronger.
"Malcolm has been great and given me his full support. That's pretty typical of him."
