FIA president Jean Todt has confirmed that teams may miss up to three Grand Prix in the 2010 season without incurring any penalties.

Both US F1 and Campos are reportedly struggling to be ready for the start of the new season which opens in Bahrain next month and in previous years missing even one race would have led to a hefty fine and possibly even elimination from the sport.

However, Todt has revealed that there will be a more conciliatory approach this year, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport: "In the last World Motor Sport Council the opportunity for a team to not participate in three rounds of the championship was granted, even if they are not consecutive.

"Also, if a team drops out of the championship, the insertion of a new team is not automatic. It is always up to the FIA to decide whether someone is eligible or not."
