Brawn: We will have to improve to fight off Red Bull
Ross Brawn has told his Brawn GP team they will have to improve if they are to avoid being overtaken by Red Bull at the head of the Formula One constructors championship. Red Bull were in fine form at Silverstone nine days ago when they scored a notable one-two.That cut Brawn's lead to 30.5 points at the head of the constructors championship ahead of next weekend's German Grand Prix.
Brawn blames lower than expected temperatures at Silverstone for the poor performance of his cars, but has warned his team they must improve.
"Red Bull have been pretty close all year, so I think we have got to find some performance because they made a good step at Silverstone," Brawn told autosport.com.
"With the confusion over the tyres, we didn't run some new pieces we had because Friday [at Silverstone] was very difficult with the tyre temperature. We couldn't determine how the new bits were working, so we decided to avoid confusion and went back to what we had in Turkey.
"So we've got those bits and we have some new improvements for the Nurburgring."
