Pittsburgh held on throughout a nail-biting finale to defeat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 and claim the NHL's Stanley Cup with a 4-3 series victory. Maxime Talbot scored twice before Jonathan Ericsson reduced the deficit and netminder Marc-Andre Fleury denied the Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom late on. Fleury produced a superb performance to erase the memory of a 5-0 loss in game five at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena that had left Pittsburgh on the verge of elimination.

But Pittsburgh returned home and notched a 2-1 victory on Tuesday to force the series into a deciding game.

Scorer of the match winning goal Talbot said: "I can't remember how I scored, and I don't care how I scored but I can't believe that we won the Stanley Cup."

The victory was Pittsburgh's third ever Stanley Cup success.
