Red Wings take command
The Detroit Red Wings have taken a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals after beating Chicago 3-2 in overtime. The Red Wings are going for their fifth Stanley Cup victory since 1997 and the Blackhawks will now have to win four of their remaining five games to prevail. The game-winner was Mikael Samuelsson, who converted a three-on-one to seal victory in a match that had been tight throughout.
Brian Rafalski and Dan Cleary had scored the first two for the Red Wings, but they were pegged back by an impressive display from Chicago captain Jonathan Toews, who netted twice, including the equaliser late in the third period that took the game to overtime.
And Chicago coach Joel Quenneville admitted the manner of the loss was heartbreaking for his side.
"It was a brutal loss today," he said. "We did a lot of right things, still can't be satisfied with certain things, but we have a couple of days to gather some momentum."
