Italian sensation Matteo Manassero is the first round leader at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
The 17-year-old carded a sparking seven-under-par round of 64 at the picturesque Crans-sur-Sierre course high in the Swiss mountains.
Manassero, who shot to prominence after becoming the youngest player ever to make the cut at the Masters back in April, leads the way by one shot from England's Graeme Storm and Mikko Ilonen of Finland.
His form has continued the good times in European golf for Italian players following Sunday's confirmation that both Edoardo and Francesco Molinari will be in the Ryder Cup team for Celtic Manor.
"I hope that more young Italians will take up golf. We hope that obviously that many, many more guys will come through," said Manassero after completing his round.
"It's very good to have two top players in the world and Ryder Cup players that are close to you, come from the same country and introduce you to that life. It was lucky for me. I will always respect them."
Edoardo Molinari, who won last week at Gleneagles to earn his wildcard selection, is tied alongside Steve Webster, Chapchai Nirat, Robert Coles and Rick Kulacz for fourth place following an opening round of 66.
