The PGA Tour has amended its rule governing pro-ams after Jim Furyk's disqualification from last week's Barclays tournament.
Furyk overslept and missed his pro-am slot which caused him to be disqualified from the tournament proper the following day.
Several leading players, including Phil Mickelson, voiced their displeasure at the rule the world number six fell foul of in New Jersey.
Tour commissioner Tim Finchem has now revealed the stance has been softened should a player suffer the same fate as Furyk.
"Such player will be required to participate in the remainder of the pro-am round and may be required to perform additional sponsor activity," Finchem said in a statement.
"A player who misses his pro-am obligation in its entirety will still be ruled ineligible for the tournament unless he has been excused in accordance with the provisions of the regulations."
